Our History & A New Beginning

For many years, the families of Demopolis and the surrounding area were served by Kirk Funeral Homes, a family-owned business founded by Sherrill Neeland Kirk and his wife, Linda Ryan Kirk. Beginning in Marion, Alabama in 1967, the Kirk family served many generations throughout West Alabama.

As the funeral profession continues to evolve, a new chapter has begun.

Today, that chapter is known as River City Funeral Home.



While River City Funeral Home is an entirely new and independently owned funeral home under the ownership of A.J. Povey, we recognize and appreciate the important role the Kirk family played in serving their community for more than fifty years. Their commitment to caring for families helped establish a tradition of service that deserves to be remembered and respected.

Under A.J. 's leadership, River City Funeral Home moves forward with its own vision while embracing the timeless values that have always mattered most in funeral service: compassion, dignity, professionalism, and personalized care. Families today can expect a full range of funeral, cremation, memorial, and pre-planning services designed to meet the unique needs of each individual and family we serve.

Although the name has changed, our commitment remains the same—to provide meaningful service, trusted guidance, and genuine care during life's most difficult moments.
